I am so ready for spring to get here. It’s been showing signs, but the last few rainy chilly days are really getting me down. Trying to stay positive, take a few extra yoga classes, and enjoy it being sweater weather. What I really want to do is run around in the warm sunshine singing “the hills are alive with the sound of muuuuusic” because I am so very tired of being stuck inside, but I digress!
If you managed to continue reading after that little sidetrack, thank you for ignoring my inner nerd. This month has been a time of preparation. Preparing my gear for busy season. Preparing my home to handle me working 60 hour weeks for 8 months. Trying to simplify. Planning a few projects outdoors that we can complete before wedding season (so we can enjoy our backyard). I’ve found a weird joy in getting rid of old things in order to prepare for the new. I’ve realized I don’t need an entire closet of clothes when I only wear a handful of them. Preparing my body for the strenuous wedding season by taking the time now to hit the gym hard. While the “off season” seems nice in theory, you never really stop working, there’s just a shift in your priorities.
Here’s a few things that I’ve been doing behind the scenes, lately.
Timing – My husband and I sat down at the beginning of the month and hashed out a schedule. We both work out of the house and have two little ones running around all day. It was easy for us to feel resentful when the other one is working and vice versa. We hashed out a schedule so that he still gets his 40+ hours a week in but I also have a schedule so I don’t feel like I HAVE to work 24/7. As much as I would love to be at the email ready, it’s important to set real working hours. When I’m working I’m working, and when I’m at home I’m at home. It’s a little change, but already has a HUGE impact in productivity and our overall happiness as a family unit.
Planning – for Easter! We don’t have any family here, so the last two years we do our own thing. The girls get an egg hunt when we wake up, if the weathers out we try to play outside all day, and I make a bomb Easter ham. This years goal is to keep the candy to a minimum and focus on things we can do together as a family.
Loving – My Barre Burner class! I’m the first to admit that I put my fitness on the back burner since we moved here. I could not believe it had been almost 3 years since I played basketball or even stepped foot on the court. I had a few weepy days when I realized that such a huge part of my life wasn’t there anymore and that it’s been over 10 years since I’ve been part of a team. Then I got over it and added this wonderfully insanely hard class to my weekly schedule. The burner class…it’s no joke, this class is tough mentally…and tough everywhere else for several days after 🙂 That being said, I love it and it’s a great addition to the cardio and yoga I have been doing each week.
Listening – Pretty much two things have been in my ears this month. The Hamilton musical soundtrack, and the Being Boss Podcast.
Trying – Maybe I should have called this attempting? Trying to make sure I actually plant the bulbs I bought last year…whoops! I’m so used to my desert plants which need no maintenance!
Building – I have a few house projects I really want to finish this month. I painted one of the kids bedrooms over the weekend, and upgraded her to an official big girl room (sniff!). Next goal is taking down the gallery wall in our living room and building a long shelf for photos. I found a DIY tutorial which is only $15 so fingers crossed it turns out ok! As with any DIY project, now I need to redo my entire living room, so figuring out what is staying and what we are selling has been interesting.
Obsessing – Totally wearing this sweater over my yoga pants everyday. I actually went during a sale and scored two of these babies. So comfortable and perfect for this in between winter and spring stage! Similar here.
Working – On my new website and blog! You may notice a few changes around here. Finishing up this soft launch before officially shouting it from the rooftops and we are live!
Watching – Girls is back on and better than ever! It’s definitely one of my favorite shows and I’m so sad that it’s ending.
Leading – I absolutely love being a Rising Tide leader! Each month our conversations get so in depth (it’s crazy how creative entrepeaneurs share the same challenges across mediums) and I have made some wonderful new friends. It’s so fun to get out of the office once a month and connect with others.
Connecting – Speaking of connecting, it was a blast to get to connect with other wedding vendors at the WI Bride Vendor social earlier this month. Thank you so much WI Bride for the wonderful event!
