Three Ways to a More Meaningful Engagement Session

It’s fall which means it’s engagement session season! Yay! Engagement sessions are the perfect way for us to get to know each other before your wedding day. I know being in front of the camera can be hard, Believe me, I’m the worst in front of the camera. It’s a lot of “Where do I put my hands” whenever it’s time for our family photos. However, you want to get those nervous butterflies out before the wedding right? Couples sessions help me know what you guys  are like in front of the camera, and helps you get comfortable and know what to expect.

How can you make your engagement session special and unique to you? Here are three ways you and your fiance will not only rock your engagement session, but make it more meaningful to you.

  • Pick the Location

I encourage all of my couples to pick their engagement session location and unless they are really having a hard time narrowing it down they usually totally nail it. It can be your home, where you had your first date, your favorite coffee shop. The only thing that matters to me is that it matters to you. I’ll find that good light, but having a familiar location that means something to the both of you will give you an instant sense of ease about getting your photos taken.

  • Dress Comfortably

I totally don’t want to mom any of you here, but choosing clothing that is comfortable is so important. If you feel uncomfortable it might show in your photos. Find flattering choices that fit your body and allow you to move.

  • Just Bring Yourselves (and sometimes a plaid blanket)

All those props and stuff are just that – stuff. Engagement sessions are meant to capture your story right now, so we will do lots of hugs and cuddles, lots of laughing and playing. I want each couple to be totally into each other, and props sometimes distract from that. Blankets however, are always encouraged, especially if they are plaid.

Engagement sessions don’t have to be scary! They are a way to celebrate this new, amazing season of your life together.
