Today I am so pleased to share Liz & Edgar’s lovely wedding day! I’ve been looking forward to their day from our first meeting, not only because I love Door County, but because Edgar & Liz are one of the nicest couples I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know. They both serve others, Liz is a teacher and Edgar is a public defender and work really hard to make our community here in Wisconsin a better place. My second shooter Amy and I decided to drive up the night before since we had an early start and wanted to take advantage of the extra morning hours to scout (and also get coffee at Leroy’s, it’s the best in Door County). Amy is such a special friend of mine and I was so happy she was able to join me on this trip, not only is she a great photographer, she knows all the words to Toto’s Africa, which we sang a few times on the drive up.
Though it was raining the night before, the sun shone brightly all day long. Staying in cabins side by side, we had a fun morning with the bridal party before Edgar and Liz saw each other for the first time. They had the most beautiful view of the lake, and it was the perfect spot for their first look! After a quick “post first look selfie” we headed into the woods at Gordon Lodge for portraits, before retiring back to their rooms to prep for the ceremony. The early afternoon ceremony was absolutely gorgeous! I have to say I always get a bit teary when couples decide to have a reading from the Obergefell v. Hodges decision as part of their wedding, it’s such an important part of our history and I’m so proud when couples include it.
After the ceremony, Liz & Edgar joined their guests for cocktails and games on the lawn. Inside the lodge, Liz brought a little bit of the forest inside with beautiful magnolia leaves place cards and their mossy letter initials. I loved the pops of gold throughout the reception!
One of my favorite parts of the day was when we went outside for sunset portraits and got to do photos in the kayak. Liz had mentioned they had spent a few quiet moments in the morning together kayaking around the lake, and I just knew we had to incorporate it somehow! Major bride & groom points for being brave enough to get into a boat on your wedding day and thanks to Amy for climbing into the cold water to help me get the shot! I also loved when one of their groomsmen got the crowd on the dance floor with his awesome Michael Jackson impersonation!!
Liz & Edgar, I cannot tell you how much of an honor it was to capture your day. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness!Â

What a beautiful wedding and wonderful memories! One of my favorites is the shot from outside with the two wedding parties in adjacent rooms. Another is the bride and her father walking toward the groom ; )
