The Stacks Pod introduced me to the #midyearbookfreakouttag and I’m not sure what rock I’ve been living under but freaking out about books is basically a monthly occurrence for me so I’m so excited to share some favorites!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve hit a good groove in my reading schedule and am on track to hit my goal of 100 books this year (58 down!). If you haven’t done this challenge before, please join in! It’s been fun reading everyone else’s and I’ve found plenty to add to my to-read list! You can follow my progress on my Goodreads page!
Best book you’ve read so far – “The Nickel Boys” Colson Whitehead
Favorite sequel- “Party of Two “Jasmine Guillory- I think this counts
New release you haven’t read but want to– ughhh this list is long so top 3 newish books:
1) “The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennet (her book “The Mothers” is on my bookshelf and I want to read it first)
2) ‘The Chiffon Trenches’ By André Leon Talley – reading now!
3) ‘Sex and Vanity’ By Kevin Kwan
oh also, “Rodham: A Novel by Curtis Sittenfeld” and “One to Watch” Kate Stayman-London
I’m bad at this.
Most anticipated release for second half of the year– “Crosshairs” Catherine Hernandez
“I Have Something to Tell You: A Memoir” Chasten Buttigeg
Biggest disappointment- “Such a Fun Age” – I’ll cover this in my July recap.
Biggest Surprise- “Godshot” – Chelsea Bieker
A book that made you cry- “The Two Lives of Lydia Bird” Josie Silver & “Normal People” Sally Rooney
A book that made you smile – “Red, White, & Royal Blue” Casey McQuinston
Most beautiful book you acquired this year– “The Dutch House” Ann Patchett
Book you want to read by the end of the year – The Splendid and The Vile. I have the audiobook and I’m about 15% in but it’s dense and I want to be able to focus on it. It’s definitely a good one for walks.

What’s one book you want to finish by the end of the year?
Good afternoon Elizabeth, I hope all is well. I’m Chris Ruffin, Jr., a news producer and co-host of MasterMind Podcast, a podcast that reads and reviews popular and under the radar books. I recently read your post about the #midyearbookfreakout and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wanted to let you know we’re doing some similar things on MasterMind Podcast and would love to chat with you about some of the books we’ll be reviewing this year if you’re interested. You can find our podcast on all podcasting platforms. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!
